domestic air raid shelter behind woodbury cottage. Eastern part built into base of earthen rampart of woodbury castle. Western part extends beyond line of rampart, covered by earth and stone mound 1.2m high. Brick blast walls in nw side of mound afford narrow access down steps to blocked entrance. How far shelter chamber extends into rampart is not clear but situation - mostly covered by bulk of rampart - offers ideal protective cover

The SMR records a domestic air raid shelter situated behind Woodbury Cottage. The eastern part is built into Woodbury Castle.

No evidence of the air raid shelter was found during a site visit in November 2006.The cottage has been demolished. It is possible that the air raid shelter was also demolished, although the rampart was overgrown and the structure may be obscured by vegetation.

Protection during vegetation clearance.

Possible interpretation of World War Two features in this area.
