Full description

Joy, B. C., 1980, Flint Scatter (Worksheet). SDV132050.

Flint scatter collected june 1978. Includeded 16 waste flakes, 4 utilised flakes, 2 with edge retouch, 2 scrapers, 1 fragment of a knife, 1 blade (bevelled effect), 1 tip of arrowhead (possibly leaf-shaped but more likely early bronze age barbed and tanged) and 1 triangular retouched flake - possibly crude leaf-shaped arrowhead. Also included perforated object of well worn/polished sandstone. Found by Mr. Joy in area circa 20 metres by 12 metres, on west facing slope on e side of track leading to brooks plantation. Area now planted with conifers.

On the north edge of Crook Plantation a flint scatter was recovered, including scrapers cores and flakes. Crook Plantation lies just outside the survey area. A further scatter was found to the south at SY 0495 8611 (also outside the survey area), which included pieces of an arrowhead and a knife, a possible leaf-shaped arrowhead, scrapers and flakes, and a perforated worn or polished sandstone object.
