Full description

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1980, SX57SE18 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV240816.

(07/02/1980) There are three hut circles and a fragment of enclosure walling in an area of rough pasture which has been partly stripped of stone for the construction of the Yellowmead newtakes. At SX 56537404, is a very ruined hut of indeterminate type. It has an internal diameter of 5.6 metres with foundations of walling 1.0 metres wide and 0.2 metres high except for two upright slabs in the perimeter. The entrance is uncertain but a short bank extends westwards from the hut.

Gerrard, S., 1990-2002, Monument Protection Programme. Archaeological Item Dataset., MPP 152375 (Report - Survey). SDV277946.

Site visited on 11th June 1999. Eastern of two stone hut circles 240 metres south-west of Yellowmeade Farm. Diameter 6.0 metres. Single orthostat wall 1.6 metres wide, 0.75 metres high. Much of this hut has been removed to build the adjacent wall. Two large orthostats remain in the south-west wall and elsewhere the structure is denoted by a low spread bank. Attached to end of boundary wall. Grass and rushes cover.

Ordnance Survey, 2021, MasterMap 2021 (Cartographic). SDV364015.

Hut circle shown on modern mapping with a short section of wall to the west.

Historic England, 2021, National Heritage List for England, 1020157 (National Heritage List for England). SDV364016.

The monument includes two stone hut circles and a length of walling situated on a gentle west facing slope overlooking the valley of the River Walkham. The eastern building has seen limited damage as a result of stone robbing for the adjacent historic wall, but despite this, the orthostatic hut wall stands up to 0.75 metre high by 1.6 metre wide and surrounds an internal area measuring 6 metres in diameter.
