Hut circle lying within a small enclosure in the reave system on Halshanger Common. Diameter 8.3 metres, double orthostat wall 1.8 metres wide, 1.3 metres high. Double orthostatic except around the doorway where it is coursed. The coursed walling may represent an historic rebuilding of the structure.

Gerrard, S., 1990-2002, Monument Protection Programme. Archaeological Item Dataset., 152297 (Report - Survey). SDV277946.

Site visit 1st April 1999. Stone hut circle within coaxial fields on Halsanger Common. Diameter 8.3 metres, double orthostat wall 1.8 metres wide, 1.3 metres high. Double orthostatic except around the doorway where it is coursed. The coursed walling may represent an historic rebuilding of the structure. The door faces 167 degrees, is 1.5 metres wide and is lined on both sides. Grass and bracken. May tree just south of centre and another in the southern wall just east of the door. Some animal poaching just inside the entrance.

Butler's hut circle number 9, measuring 5.8 metres in diameter and lies within an enclosure with an entrance next to the hut.

Hut circle in reave system on Halshanger Common
A stone hut circle located within a neighbourhood group of 16 dispersed huts on Halsanger Common, and the western corner of Rippon Tor enclosure, spread over about 7ha amidst the parallel reaves. Some are attached to reaves, though others are free standing. Condition is stable. SX74713 74761

(04/08/2019) Condition assessed as bed. Bracken growth covers 100% of the feature. Also some gorse growth. Surrounding area bracken-covered. Feature not photographed due to vegetation cover.
