Summary

Vis=25/9/2000 (knights + horner) probable early iron smelting site. Re-cutting of stream and construction of revetment wall has exposed a significant quantity of iron slag. Includes tap slag, furnace slag and furnace lining. New wall is on w side of stream, but layer of slag etc visible on e side of cut at roughly water level over several metres. Slag in stream bed also. Two sherds of pottery retrieved, including large fragment ?rb black-burnished from stream side on surface, and smaller sherd of ?black-burnished from the slag band (horner).
