Name:Building to the north-west of the wayside cross, Shaugh Prior

Summary

Remains of a post medieval building recorded during an archaeological field survey in 1997. It is located within an area of linear gullies, watercourses and disturbed ground and survives as a 5.8 metre square structure with drystone walling 1.4 metres wide and 1 metre high. A narrow entrance gap is in the northwest corner. The origin and function of this building is not clear.

Fletcher, M. + Probert, S., 1998, Shaugh Moor, Devon: An Archaeological Survey (Report - Survey). SDV343481.

(03/12/1997) SX55236348. The remains of a small building lie in an area of linear gullies, watercourses and disturbed ground at 235m above OD. It survives as a 5.8m square structure with drystone walling 1.4m wide and 1.0m high. A narrow entrance gap 0.5m wide lies in the north-west corner.
The origin and function of this square building are not clear but it does not appear to be of great age.
