Full description

Exeter Archaeology, 2003, East Devon Heathlands Archaeological Survey, 26, Part 2: Gazetteer, Site No. 87 (Report - Survey). SDV101648.

Parish boundary stone within bank on west side of road on boundary of road and wood among grass and bramble. Granite with smooth faces and pitched sides and top, roughly rectangular with flat top. 0.42 metres height visible (base buried) by 0.32 metres wide by 0.21 metres thick. On south side is carved ‘BUDLEIGHPARISH BOUNDARY’ (the H of Budleigh is broken away) and on north side is carved ‘BICTONPARISH BOUNDARY’ (B of Bicton is broken away) in capital block letters. Not shown on Ordnance Survey 1891 1:10560 map (93SE).

Parish boundary stone within bank on west side of road on boundary of road and wood among grass and bramble. Granite with smooth faces and pitched sides and top, roughly rectangular with flat top. 0.42 metre height visible by 0.32 metre wide by 0.21 metre thick. On south side is carved ‘BUDLEIGH PARISH BOUNDARY’ (the ‘H’ of Budleigh is broken away) and on the north side is carved ‘BICTON PARISH BOUNADRY’ (‘B’ of Bicton is broken away) in capital block letters. Not shown on the Ordnance Survey 1891 1: 10560 map.

Close to edge of road. Broken corner probably result of being hit by a passing vehicle. Avoid damage during any roadside vegetation clearance. Reset stone further back from road to avoid further damage by vehicles. Could be mentioned in any literature referring to the parishes.
