Full description

Department of Environment, 1991, Stokenham (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV342089.

Edmonds and Gillard 18th century chest tomb about 3 metres south of the chancel of St Michael and All Saints parish church at Stokenham. Dressed slate chest with slate lid much weathered. Slate panels on north and south sides that on north side with inscription to Mary daughter of Thomas and Joanna Edmonds of East Carnborough in this parish who died in 1762 aged 9 months, and slate panel on south side to Mary Gillard wife of Nathaniel Gillard of Cormore in this parish who died in 1770. Over 500 memorials were recorded in the churchyard including 18th and 19th century gravestones.
