A scatter of lithics, including a broken microlith and a thumbnail scraper, found during excavations by Exeter Archaeology on the site of the new Combined School in Topsham indicate Mesolithic, Neolithic and Early Bronze Age activity in the area. Four excavated features were also revealed, cut by the defences of a first century Roman military base, and may, therefore, be presumed to be prehistoric. They did not contain any dateable finds and may or may not have been contemporary with one another or with the lithics.
