Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

Wheel pit shown on 19th century map with rectangular buildings adjoining to the east & southwest. A further rectangular building is shown to the south at SX43617067. The aqueduct (see PRN 72797) enters the northern end of the wheel pit.

Site of a waterwheel pit & grinder/stamps (Sites 24 & 24.1) shown on 19th century maps at Wheal Russell Mine. The water provided the means of grinding/crushing & stamping the ore prior to it being dressed in the adjacent dressing floor. The survey in 2005 found the outline of the waterwheel pit with remnants of walls on both sides up to 0.5 meters high.
