Trewin Design Partnership, 2006, Barns at Tackbear Manor. Statement on the Architectural Importance of the Buildings (Report - non-specific). SDV338384.

Barn A. A south-facing two-storey stone and slated barn, formerly stables at ground floor with granary above and a roundhouse on the north side. The principal elevation has distinctive arched granite surround to certain doors and granite mullion windows and a coat of arms in granite, carved by Albert de Castro Glubb, 1905. Other details: Photographs.

Torridge District Council, 2007, Change of Use of Redundant Barns, 1/0415/2007/FUL (Planning Application). SDV338385.

Context One Archaeological Services, 2008, Redundant Barns, Tackbear Manor, Bridgerule, Devon, 13-14,37-38 (Report - Survey). SDV340622.

Barn A is predominently constructed of rubble stone with some cob. Main building has hipped slate roof with central gablet on south elevaltion. Granite ashlar quoins and dressings, with ground and first floor doors on south elevation having chamfered granite arches and hoodmoulds. Inscription above first floor doorway reads 'ADC C GLUBB 1905'. Northern building of rubble stone with brick quoins under asbestos roof. Western building, predominently of rubble stone and brick, is in a ruinous state. The 1844 Tithe Map and early Ordnance Survey maps show a horse engine house on the north side of the barn. This appears to have been replaced by the present northern building presumably during the extensive rebuilding undertaken by Glubb in 1905. The granite features may be resued material from the south east wing of the mansion which was demolished in 1858
