'Middle Winsham' marked on 1880s-1890s 25 inch Ordnance Survey map to the north of 'Greehnill Cross', comprising range of buildings around a yard with an L-shaped structure off the western side of the west range and additional buildings on the other side of the lane.

Winsham is recorded as Wenneham in 1086 and as Winesham in 1244. The name probably derives from 'Wine's ham(m)'.

Historic environment audit of Middle Winsham Farm undertaken by Conservation Management, a division of Wessex Archaeology, for Devon County Council. Middle Winsham Farm is one of the 93 farm holdings that make up Devon County Farms Estate. Situated in the base of a small valley, the farm currently covers a disparate area of c46 hectares. The landscape is characterised by modern enclosures which have been created out of probable medieval enclosures. The sinuous medieval boundaries survive in places, although map evidence indicates that a number of field boundaries have disappeared since the time of the 1841 Tithe Map. Two trackways, Pind Lane and Stony Lane, probably date to the medieval enclosure period.
