Full description

Bass, R. T., 2005, Spirits of the Sand: Field Edition, 38 (Monograph). SDV325697.

Two concrete post bases found which may be early constructions at the World War II US Assault Training Centre at Braunton Burrows.

Miller, D., 2006, World War Two Features Annotated onto Braunton Burrows Habitat Map (Cartographic). SDV339606.

'Post bases' are annotated onto the Braunton Burrows Habitat Map.

Passmore, A. J., 2009, Braunton Burrows Higher Level Environmental Stewardship Scheme. Archaeological Survey 2009 (Report - Survey). SDV344652.

Visited 2009. Two small lumps of concrete partially buried in the dunes. One piece has a 80 millimetre diameter hole in its upper face, possibly for a light fitting as would be required for use within a decoy airfield. The second larger fragment may represent a fragment of this light base or a second light base moved from a different location. (They would not have originally been located in pairs.) These are different than the posts recorded to the north as part of the decoy airfield, and may therefore actually relate to the US Army Assault Training Area.
Currently stable, but close to military training area car park and potential location of new fence line south of J Lane.

Passmore, A. + Knight, S., 2009, Farm Environment Plan (FEP), Updated Spreadsheet of Archaeological Sites (Un-published). SDV344664.
