A milestone is marked as 'Ottery St. Mary 4, Sidmouth 2, M.S.' on the First Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch map.

A milestone (c1846) is located south of Bowd on the grass verge, by the hedge, on the south side of the road. It is worn granite, with a similar design to the Exeter stones nearer the city. It may have at one time marked the distance to the city on its base. It's legend reads 'Ottery/4' on the left side, and 'Sidmouth/2' on the right side. Other details: Surveyed 2/4/2005.
