Full description

Beacham, P., 1980s, Broadhembury and Gittisham Project, 9/32 (Un-published). SDV348235.

Rethatched in 1971 as part of a thatching project grant aided by Devon County Council. Part of the Drew estate.

Caroe & Partners, 1997, Broadhembury Village. Draft Survey of Condition (Report - Survey). SDV344616.

Creamwashed cob cottage of single depth plan with a central slated porch. There are two tall wooden casement dormer windows, and wooden casement windows below. The roof is thatched on a 17th- or 18th century A-frame. The central stair rises from the rear up towards the front, but the original stair position was probably against the main stack on the east (right). There is a brick lean-to at the rear, partially roofed in slate. The rmainder is of corrugated asbestos sheet. This contains the bathroom, kitchen and larder.
Thatch recently renewed. Exterior and interior condition generally good. Kitchen and larder in the lean-to suffer from condensation and dampness, having no damp proof course or insulation. One window, to rear over the staircase, was rotten.
