Row of four bomb craters visible on aerial photograph interpretation.

National Monuments Record, 2002, 1355137 (National Monuments Record Database). SDV343751.

A line of four bomb craters extend from SX56945990 to SX57216010 across a fairly steep hillslope on Crownhill Down. Each is approximately 10 metres diameter and about 2.4 metres deep. The holes have sharply defined edges with a minimal but widespread scatter of spoil around the top. These craters are most probably the result of a World War II stick of bombs.

A circular pit circa 11m in diameter is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards and digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2013 on Crownhill Down, Centred on circa SX57146004.
The earthwork is interpreted as a bomb crater of Second World War date, the third in a row of four extending in a line over circa 340m from circa SX56945989 in the south—west to SX57216010 in the north-east. The crater appears to cut the line of the Bottle Hill Leat (MDV14140).
The pit remains visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2018.
