Pair of adjacent Brown chest ombs approximately 14 metres south of aisle of the Church of St Mary. Two adjacent chest tombs, one dated 1793 in memory of John Brown, the other dated 1797 in memory of Margaret Brown. Both have grey basalt lids and are made of roughly-coursed blocks of volcanic stone rubble. The 2 adjacent chest tombs are very similar. They have plain flat lids and plain walls. The lids are inscribed. The southern chest tomb is the earlier of the 2. Its lid is inscribed in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering and this records the death of John Brown in 1793. There is also a Hamstone plaque in the west end of this tomb in memory of John Brown's sons. The northern tomb lid is inscribed in italic lettering and the inscription records the death of Margaret Brown in 1797. Date listed 17th March 1988.
