Summary

Farmstead dates to at least the 17th century, based on the age of the mansion. Farmstead was included in the Historic Farmsteads survey, carried out by the Dartmoor National Park Authority in 2003.

Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

'Sourtridge' is depicted on the Peter Tavy Tithe Map; 1000-1001 on the apportionment. Owned by Thomas Spry, occupied by George Legassick. Large farmhouse on the north-western side of the farm, with four associated buildings to the east and a diagonal row of three buildings to the north.

A number of changes to the farm buildings are evident since the Tithe Map depiction, including new buildings to the north and north-east of the house, as well as changes to some of the existing buildings to the east of the house.

Farmstead included in survey. Visited in 03/11/2003.
Farmhouse not included in survey. Single storey shippon building aligned north-south and east-west aligned pig house (both mid-late 19th century in date) are located to the north and north-east of the house.
Single storey Linhay, aligned north-west by south-east and a bank barn aligned north-east by south-west (both dating between 1700-1887) are located to the east of the house.

Sortridge is depicted on the modern mapping. Apart from the farmhouse, the bank barn to the east is listed and has been retained; other buildings mostly appear to have been altered.
