Name:Lower Brimley farmstead, Bovey Tracey

Summary

Farmstead dates to at least the 17th century, based on the age of the farmhouse. The 1840s Tithe Map and the late 19th century historic map show a different configuration of farm buildings to the surviving layout, which are shown on the early 20th century historic map. Recorded in the Dartmoor Historic farmstead survey (visited in 2004).

Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments, Plot 2389 (Cartographic). SDV359954.

'Dwelling House and farm buildings' recorded; part of the Brimley estate. House to the north-west of the farm, with large farm building to the south and smaller structures to the east and south-east.

Some changes visible to the Lower Brimley buildings by the later 19th century. Dwelling and main building remain, but some other changes to structures apparent.

Further changes again visible to the farm buildings since the late 19th century historic map, including to northern site.

Lower Brimley Farmstead included in survey. SX 8000 7700. Visited on 25/08/2004. Farmhouse (17th century) and surrounding farm buildings 2-5 around yard recorded, as well as buildings 6 and 7 to the north of the road at SX 8008 7711.
