Dewdon is first mentioned in 1086 as Depdona in the Domesday book. It is written in various documents throughout the middle ages with different spellings. The first element of the name probably comes from the Old English for Dew and the name must have originally referred to a hill where the dew fell heavily. The modern name is Jordan.
