Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

'Stone' is depicted on Tithe Map; plot A399. Large narrow farm building aligned east-west to the south of the farm; another roughly square building is shown at the north end of the farm. The dwelling lies directly to the south of the latter and is an irregular shape.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The late 19th century historic map shows the northern building has been removed. A new addition to the farm has been added on the eastern side of the farm, but otherwise the layout appears much the same as the Tithe Map.

Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.

Unchanged.

McKay, K., 1994 - 1997, Dartmoor National Park Authority Farmstead Survey 1994-1997 (Report - Survey). SDV344544.

Farmstead included in survey. Visited on 22/03/1996. Listed farmhouse lies in centre of farm; 18th century threshing barn and engine house (converted) to east of house. Building to south of farm is divided; early 19th century stable (partly converted to domestic use) at eastern end, 18th century or earlier shippon at western end. Smaller building to the south-west of the house is a 19th century cart shed.

Ordnance Survey, 2022, Mastermap 2022 (Cartographic). SDV364674.

The modern mapping shows the farm layout at Stone is unchanged from the late 19th century map depiction.
