Thorp, J. + Cox, J., 1994, Batworthy Farm, Chagford, 7- (Report - Survey). SDV347507.

As a name, 'Batworthy' dates from Saxon times; 'worthy' meaning enclosed homestead. It was formerly spelt 'Badworthy' (Bada's wordig) - the homestead belonging to Bada. By the late 18th century there were three properties all referred to as Batworthy in the hamlet, which confuses the documentary research of this farmstead.
