Farmstead probably dates to the early 13th century, based on documentary evidence. Layout has remained broadly the same since the 19th century map depictions, although some modern additions and alterations noted. Included in Dartmoor Historic farmstead survey; visited in 1995.

Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments, Plot 572 (Cartographic). SDV359954.

Layout of Coombe Farm as depicted on the Tithe Map is largely similar to what survives today with dwelling to the north of the road, farm buildings to the south of the road and small structures to the north and east of the house.

Combe was probably the home of Walter de Cumbe referred to in document dated 1244.

(Visited 25/04/1995) SX 837 840. Combe Farmstead included in survey. Six buildings recorded including 17th century farmhouse, shippon, barn and engine house, stable and a pig house (various dates 17th - 19th century).

Modern mapping shows that although most of the buildings shown on the 19th century maps of Combe have been retained, some modern additions are now present.
