Full description

Buck, C., 2006, Gawton Mine, Devon: Archaeological Assessment, 23 (Report - Assessment). SDV344672.

Small scattered lode back or costean pits (searching for the lode outcrop) are distributed along the hill following the possible lode outcrop alignment. This feature, similar to a shaft, is located approximately 25.0 metres from the field gate north of the site, close to a stone outcrop. The feature was full of water, the surface of which was 0.5 metres below ground level. The opening is approximately 2.5 metres in diameter from east to west and is set within a wider opening of 5.5 metres from north to south. Other details: Figure 35, site 2.
