Full description

At Knowle Cross, near the road junction, are several 18th and early 19th century cob cottages with hipped thatched roofs. These are survivals of plain one or two room ground floor plans, probably former squatter cottages, as they immediately front the road with no land behind.

English Heritage, 2011, Historic Houses Register (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV346128.

Small cottage. Probably 18th century, renovated circa 1950. Plastered cob, with or without stone footings; stone rubble stack topped with 20th century brick; thatch roof. Plan: three-room plan cottage facing east. The right end room, the kitchen, is a circa 1950 extension. The original cottage had a small unheated service room (now the central entrance hall) and to left a living room with a gable-end stack. Two storeys with 20th century service outshots to rear. Exterior: nearly symmetrical three-window front of 20th century casements with glazing bars. Central doorway contains a 20th century door behind a contemporary porch. Roof is gable- ended to left and hipped to right. Interior: is largely the result of the circa 1950 modernisation and no carpentry detail is exposed. Roof not inspected. Jasmine Cottage is one of a group of attractive thatch-roofed cottages at Knowle Cross.
