In Devon Celtic place-names are few and of the common Cornish place-name element 'tre(f)' there are only three definite examples, two on the edges of Dartmoor and one in Hartland area. At Ackworthy the field-patterns are (on the late 19th century map) suggestive of former strip-field systems which are focused on a combe-head oval enclosure which is otherwise abandoned and which they must post-date.
