Full description

Bone, M., 1973, Barnstaple's Industrial Archaeology, 30 (Monograph). SDV78228.

The ironwork for the bridge was supplied by E. Finch and Company Ltd of Chepstow but the pilasters were cast by the Barnstaple Foundry who also rivetted the bridge. It was constructed in 1887.

The spur from the Devon and Somerset Railway to the LSWR was completed on 1st June 1887.

The railway line that connected the Great Western Railway Station at Victoria Road with the London and South Western Railway Station at Barnstaple Junction cross the River Taw on a bridge reached on an embankment. The bridge survived the closure of the line in 1970 and now carries a footpath and cycle route.
