Full description
Contemporary records state. “Pillbox and dredging of river with deposit of silt. O.S. No. 322 – adj. E. bank of R. Chelmer – Littley Green. Map ref. 142355” (Mil. Ed.) <1>
Field O.S. No. 322 as a long thin field running alongside the E bank of the river immediately N of the track known as Cut Throat Lane and ford. An aerial photograph taken in 1960 shows what appears to be an hexagonal pillbox, possibly a Type FW3/22, half hidden by a tree on the bank of the river at TL 6950 1676. Nothing can be seen on subsequent aerial photographs. <2>
