Pillbox (destroyed), R. Colne N of Malting's Farm, Lexden, Colchester

Full description

An aerial photograph taken in 1946 shows an hexagonal pillbox at a field edge on the S side of the R. Colne N of Maltings Farm. <1>

It still survived in 1960 but by 1980 the A12 roadway crossed this position and the pillbox was clearly demolished and this section of the river re-routed. <2> <3>

The pattern of the pillbox was possibly of the same 19’6 wide type as SMR 10948.
