Summary

Road Barrier (destroyed)

Full description

At Gingerbreadhall Bridge the anti-tank ditch of the GHQ Line crossed the A130. South of the road, Sandon Brook was used. N of the road an anti-tank ditch was dug heading NNE. The first 100 yards of this is now Sandon Brook and the original pre-war path of the brook, which zig-zagged northwards, was clearly made redundant after the war. To maintain the integrity of the defence line a road barrier was constructed across the A130.

Contemporary records state, "Road Barrier. Road No. A130 Gingerbread Hall Bridge. Map ref. 188219" (Mil. Ed.) Nothing distinctive of this barrier can be seen on an aerial photograph taken in October 1946. <1> <2>
