Full description

This entire area is now underneath the double-roundabout and Chelmsford By-Pass section of the A12/A130 road junction. During World War Two the A130 curved northwards from Howe Green towards Chelmsford. On the W side of the long bend, at Gingerbread Hall, stood a Type FW3/28A artillery pillbox facing SE towards the road barrier at Gingerbreadhall Bridge (SMR 20216). This can be clearly seen on aerial photographs up to 1981. <1> <2> <3> <4>
