Summary
Pillbox (destroyed),
Full description
Contemporary records state, “Pill box. Hambro Hill Corner”. An aerial photograph taken in May 1946 shows open fields to the N and S of Hockley Road around the Hambro Hill junction. However, the natural position for a pillbox would be the W corner between the two roads. Here, it would face E to guard against an attack along Hockley Road. On the aerial photograph, this corner is under thick trees in the front garden of a house and nothing of the pillbox can be seen. <1> <2>
On the ground in 2003, nothing of the pillbox was found to have survived and both sides of Hockley Road are now residential housing.
