Summary

Cantilever Pillbox,

Full description

A low-level aerial photograph taken in August 1947 shows the clear shape of an hexagonal pillbox standing on the W side of Rochford Airfield. <1> An aerial photograph taken in June 1960 shows something at this point, possibly the pillbox or its base after demolition. <2> The site is hidden by trees or shrubs on subsequent aerial photographs.

As it has not been possible to access the site any survival is not known. On balance, given the lack of identifiable shape on the 1960 aerial photograph and nothing showing in 1970, it is probable that it was demolished prior to 1960.
