Summary

Pillbox

Full description

A plan of Rochford Airfield dated June 1945 and a low-level aerial photograph taken in August 1947 show an hexagonal pillbox standing on the green just outside the perimeter track on the S side of the airfield. A blast wall can be seen protecting the entrance on the SE face. This position was immediately to the W of the two Bellman hangars. Although it has not been possible to access the site, it is clear from later aerial photographs that this pillbox no longer survives. <1> <2>
