Summary
Pillbox (destroyed),
Full description
Contemporary records state, “2 Pill, Boxes, 1 Observation Post. Nr. Barrow Hall Bldgs: north and south of road. Map ref. 366065.” (Mil. Ed.) <1>
One of the two pillboxes can be seen on a May 1946 aerial photograph standing at the edge of a field on the N side of Barrow Hall Road. It was a large hexagonal type, probably of the same pattern as its extant partner on the S side of the road (see SMR 20806). From this position it would not only have been able to support the road barrier 150 yards to the E (SMR 20808) but it would also have dominated all the lower lying fields to the N and NE. <2>
June 1960 aerial photographs show that it had been demolished by this date and nothing now appears to remain. <3>
