Summary

Road Barrier (destroyed),

Full description

Contemporary records state, 'Road Barrier. Nr. Langford Waterworks. Map ref. 275277.' (Mil. Ed.) <1>

This wartime grid reference corresponds to a position in open country to the S of Hatfield Peverel Road. It is thought that the road barrier was probably located at Langford Bridge, only 100 yards from the former entrance to Langford Pumping Station. This would have been a natural defensive position and a typical site for a road barrier. This siting is re-inforced by the position of a supporting pillbox some 80 yards along the road to the W. (SMR 20292).

No remains were found at the time of the site visit.
