Summary

A type FW3/22 pillbox

Full description

An aerial photograph taken in May 1946 shows the partially-obscured shape of what is probably a Type FW3/22 pillbox standing by the S side of Hatfield Peverel Road. This position is some 80 yards W of the suspected position of the 'Langford Waterworks road barrier' and is the nearest point where a pillbox can be constructed at the same level as the road and provide a field of fire to the W. <1> <2>

An aerial photograph taken in 1960 shows the pillbox to have been removed by that date. <3>

No remains of this pillbox were found at the time of the site visit.
