Full description
Contemporary records state, "Colchester Road near Wave Bridge. Road blocks and pill box". <1> It has not been possible to identify this pillbox on an aerial photograph taken in 1946. <2>
June 1999: A local wartime resident has identified the former location of this pillbox as having stood on the S side of The Street, some 60-70 yards SW of Wave Bridge. Iike the siting of the pillbox which guarded Black Bridge (see 20282), this position is below the level of the bridge and firing across the brow would have been seemingly impossible unless the pillbox was particularly tall. <3>
