Summary

Pillbox (destroyed)

Full description

A plan of the wartime defences along the seafront at Clacton-on-Sea (see SMR 21178) shows a pillbox, annotated ‘D’, on the path through the clifftop gardens a few yards SE of a shelter opposite Edith Road. <1>

Although fairly clear at this point, aerial photographs taken in July 1941 show nothing on the path here and it appears likely that the pillbox had not been built by that date. Similarly, aerial photographs taken in July 1946 show nothing, the pillbox probably having been demolished by then. <2> <3>
