Full description

A plan of the wartime defences along the seafront at Clacton-on-Sea (see SMR 21178) shows a pillbox, annotated ‘E’, where a breakwater joins the promenade. <1>

An aerial photograph taken in July 1941 shows something ‘pillbox-sized’ here but by July 1946 it had clearly gone as nothing shows on an aerial photograph of that date. <2> <3>

An OS map, dated 1990, shows the outline of a half-hexagonal base, probably the surviving half of its concrete base. In January 2007, the seawall here has now been reconfigured and nothing of this base remains to be seen. <4>
