Summary

Pillbox (destroyed)

Full description

A plan of the wartime defences along the seafront at Clacton-on-Sea (see SMR 21178) shows a pillbox, annotated ‘H’, where a breakwater joins the promenade. <1>

Although aerial photographs from July 1941 show something at this point they are not clear enough to be more specific. <2>

An OS map dated 1974 shows the end of the breakwater, where it joins the promenade, as a half-hexagonal, probably where the pillbox once stood. The seawall here has now been configured and nothing of this base remains to be seen. <3>
