Full description

Contemporary records state, ‘Erection of pillbox. Adj. 55, London Road, Clacton-on-Sea’. <1>

This pillbox can be seen on an aerial photograph taken in July 1946. it stood on a bend on the S side of London Road alongside the garden of No. 55. The photograph shows that it was probably a Type FW3/22 with a surrounding ‘skirt’ of concrete. The entrance was on the S side. <2> See ‘Road Barrier (destroyed), London Road, Great Clacton’ (SMR 21241).

There is now no trace of the pillbox and the point where it once stood is the parking area for allotments.
