Full description

Late 6th/early 7th century inhumation found during construction work at Pound Farm. Associated finds comprised a scramasax (13" long), belt buckle and tag and a knife. Hitchin Museum (Acc 3093, 3343) <1>. Other isolated burials are said to have been found in the vicinity, but there is no real evidence to support this <2> apart from a contemporary vessel apparently from Vicar's Grove [398].

The finds with the burial include an iron shield boss <4>.
