Roman building materials re-used in the parish church
Monument Types
- FINDSPOT (Roman - 50 AD to 409 AD)
Full description
Roman tiles have been re-used in the NE and SE nave quoins of St Margaret's church [4299]. No trace of the Roman material is visible on the exterior of the church which has been rendered with plaster <1>.
Roman pottery has been found against the north nave wall <2>. The re-use of Roman building materials is common, but the presence of pottery suggests that the source here was nearby.
