Full description
Stane Street is the course of the Roman highway east from Braughing to Bishop's Stortford into Essex, and ultimately to Colchester. It was sectioned in 1949 at TL 495 219 and in 1976 at TL 494 220. Much of the route is still in use, apart from the diversion into the bishops of London's medieval town and a safer river crossing at Bishop's Stortford.
