  • WINDMILL (Post Medieval - 1501 AD to 1900 AD)

Full description

Site of windmill which has been demolished leaving no visible traces at ground level <1>. A mill here first appears on Seller's map of 1676, and the last mill ceased grinding grain by wind power in 1876 <2>. (Seller may, however, be showing [783].)
The mill is shown on the 1878-79 OS map <3>, at the rear of a rectangular enclosure on the common and beside a path leading from the road. By 1898 <4> the mill had been demolished, leaving the property called Millhouse [18124] at the front of the plot.
The enclosure and the track still survive.
