Full description

Caythorpe Hall country house was built in 1823 and was designed by William Parsons for Col. G. Hussey Packe. It is of 2 storeys and is constructed of ashlar in five by five bay blocks, with a slate roof and an Ionic portico to the grand storey. On the south front, the central bay is slightly recessed and the end bay slightly advanced. The interior contains many original features including marble fireplaces, plaster friezes and ceilings and a remarkable cantilevered staircase with openwork iron balustrade in a stairwell lit by a glazed rectangular latern. The Hussey family have a long association with Caythorpe, and previously owned a medieval moated manor house which stood in the vicinity of the present house (see PRN30245). {4}

A brief history of the development and ownership of the hall was detailed in May 2014, in a heritage statement produced to assess the impact of restoration works and alterations to Caythorpe Hall. The statement also included floor plans and a description of the building's layout. {5}
