DOWSBY HALL IS A MOATED STONE MANSION BUILT BETWEEN 1603 AND 1610, AND SOMEWHAT REDUCED IN SIZE, POSSIBLY IN THE 18TH CENTURY.{1}{2}{3}{4}{5} DOWSBY HALL IS ONE HALF OF THE ORIGINAL LARGE MANSION (THE SOUTH WALL IS UNRELIEVED FACING STONE); THERE IS A TRADITION OF CROMWELLIAN DESTRUCTION. A RAINWATER HEAD DATED 1630 SURVIVES. SEE APs AO:65:31:2 AND 3. THERE ARE POSSIBLE REMAINS OF A SURROUNDING MOAT BUT SLIGHT DEPRESSIONS ARE DISTINGUISHABLE FROM LANDSCAPE GARDENING. AN OLD DROVE ROAD LIES IMMEDIATELY EAST.{1} THE PROBLEM PRESENTED BY DOWSBY IS S FRONT, THIS IS ENTIRELY BLANK WALL AND MOST UNUSUAL IF HOUSE HAS NOT BEEN TRUNCATED, POSSIBLY IN THE 18TH CENTURY. {5}{6}
Dowsby Hall, Dowsby. Partially extant 19th century farmstead. Regular courtyard with a covered yard. The farmhouse is detached from the main working complex. There has been a partial loss (less than 50%) of traditional buildings. Located within a Church and/or Manor farm group. Large modern sheds are located on the site. {7}
