Full description

The Church of St Wilfrid, which stands in the grounds of Holywell Hall, was built about 1700. It incorporated Norman, Decorated and Perpendicular style material taken from the destroyed church at Aunby in its construction (see MLI33608). The church is open once yearly for public service, otherwise it is used as a private chapel for the adjacent hall. {1}{2}{3}{4}

Stained glass in this church dates to the 14th-15th and 17th centuries. It includes two Netherlandish panels apparently from Careby church. {5}

The Church of St Wilfrid dates from c.1700, although some 19th century alterations are apparent. It was built re-using 12th and 14th century material, being constructed of coursed, squared, limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and rusticated quoins. The church has a nave, west tower and vestry, and features a slate roof. The 2-stage west tower has a quatrefoil parapet frieze and angle urns.
