Medieval wall tower of coursed rubble, standing at angle of West St.{1} {2}
'The only surviving tower of the city wall. An angle bastion tower, in three stages in ashlar. The walls adjoining it are modern. New schedule includes additional area 'behind the bastion and thus the site of any town bank eg associated with the defences.'{3}

The tower walls are heavily repaired including internal thickening and partial filling with concrete. It was originally open at the back. The flanking walls are post medieval and modern but follow the old line. {5}
This tower is almost certainly late 13th century. It has been much rebuilt and altered so it is difficult to determine the original plan and details. It may never have been roofed and it is impossible to tell if it had stairs to the sentry walk (it is possible that it didn't due to the closeness of St Peter's gate). {6}
